"TANGLE AT STICKBALL"

In the Creek culture, a game of stickball is traditionally a part ofthe religious dance ceremonies. A stickball game usually follows a nightlong stompdance and is a measure of the strength and endurance of its participants.Tiger masterfully captures the competitiveness of this age-old Creek sportin "Tangle At Stickball".

In all his work, Tiger was first and foremost a creative artist, andsecond, an historian. The figures in this painting are meant to evoke themood of the very competitive, often brutal, stickball game rather than tobe an actual rendition of two stickball game participants.
